The day has come, time to stop using those old style traps!Love catching yabbies? We’ve got a PSA for you! It’s time to put away the opera house nets for good because from Monday July 1, they’re no longer permitted in Victorian waters, private or public. While we all love a feed of yabbies, we don’t want our delicious dinner to come at the expense of Aussie wildlife like platypus, turtles and native water rats. We’ve been working with more than 70 Victorian fishing retailers to get opera house nets off the shelves and replace them with other options. Don’t worry – you can still use wildlife-friendly open-top lift nets, hoop nets, bait traps and baited lines, depending on where you’re fishing. You’re also still able to possess opera house nets at home or in the shed in case you chase yabbies in other states, some of which permit their use. Still, we’d prefer you threw them in the bin and chose wildlife-friendly equipment. Got more questions? Check out our FAQs here – ... See MoreSee Less
